Introduction

The Map Viewer is designed to allow both general map users and power users to view land-based information as layers “stacked” over a base map in an easy-to-use interface. This viewer also allows various map-based tools to be used, as well as custom themes and layers.

The Map Viewer provides a broad distribution of land-related information through a browser-based map display. The Map Viewer employs maps that are published through ESRI ArcGIS Server. Data contained within the Integral-LIS database can also be displayed in the Map Viewer. The Map Viewer is comprised of three main components:

Integral-LIS and is displayed to the user through the browser.),

Integral-LIS user screens.), and

Integral-LIS application).

The Map Viewer interface is comprised of 3 main components as shown below.

Actors

Throughout this document, reference is made, directly and indirectly, to actors. Actors are individuals involved with a specific workflow or process and in most cases are users of the application. The actors that will use or maintain the Mapping package are given below. Examples of actors include the user who will make general use of the maps, and the Mapping Server Administrator who will create and publish map services, configure themes, filters, hot links, and security options.

ActorDefinition
General Map Users (User)Makes use of the themes component tools and filters. The user has limited rights to the system, based on individual and group rights assigned by the administrator.
Power UsersStaff that will provide more in depth analysis of the data.
GIS TechniciansCreate maps and themes to publish through ArcGIS Server.
Mapping Server AdministratorManages ArcGIS Server and publishes maps to ArcGIS Server.
Database AdministratorManages the SDE component of ArcGIS Server and linkage to the LIS.

The Navigation Controls bar consists of the following tools:

Navigation _ Control aaaaaa Definition
A - Toggle Layer PanelToggles the visibility of the Layer Panel located on the left side of the interface.
B - Zoom to Full ExtentSets the zoom level of the Map Display Area to the default zoom level.
C - Zoom InIncreases the zoom level of the Map Display Area by one.
D - Zoom OutDecreases the zoom level of the Map Display Area by one.
E - PanChanges the icon to a hand icon and allows for panning the map by left-clicking and dragging within the Map Display Area.
F - Previous ExtentThe Previous Extent button works much like an internet browser's “Back” button. Each change to the map view, such as zoom level or position, is stored in a change queue. Clicking the Previous Extent Toolbar Item Description button will step backwards through that queue and restore map position and zoom level accordingly.
G - Next Extent

NOTE: Any deviation from the queue path results in a new path forming and effectively clearing the queue checkpoints available for the Next Extent button. For instance, if the Previous Extent button is clicked twice, then returning to the original state is as simple as clicking the Next Extent button twice. But, if instead, the Previous Extent button is clicked twice and another action is performed such as Zoom In, then the Next Extent button grays out and is unavailable. |

H - MeasureThis tool opens the Measure Toolbar, containing Line, Polygon, and Rectangle measuring tools. The Line tool measures linear distance, while the Polygon and Rectangle tools measure area. Various units can be selected and will be context sensitive to the tool used.
I - Query Integral LayersOpens the Query Toolbar, containing various tools for map navigation, executing queries, and measuring geographic features.
J - Query ToolsOpens the Query Toolbar, containing various tools for map navigation, executing queries, and measuring geographic features.
K - Goto Map AdminOpens the Map Administration module in the Administration Package.

Map Display Area

The Map Viewer display area is the portion of the Map Viewer where the map is displayed. There are two main methods for manipulating the map area: navigation controls found on the main Query Toolbar and the Navigation Controls.
